The Christmas Story
Luke Chapters 1 & 2 and Matthew Chapters 1 & 2
1. The Prophecy
For a child is born to us, a son is given to us.
And he will be called: Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
2. The Angel’s Message
“Don’t be afraid, Mary,” the angel told her,
“for you have found favour with God!
You will conceive and give birth to a son,
and you will name him Jesus.”
3. Bethlehem Baby
Because Joseph was a descendant of King David,
he had to go to Bethlehem in Judea.
He took with him Mary, to whom he was engaged,
who was now expecting a child.
4. Jesus is Born
While they were there, she gave birth to her first child, a son.
She wrapped him snuggly in strips of cloth and laid him in a manger,
because there was no lodging available for them.
5. Good News for All
The angel said: “I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all
people. The Saviour—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born
today in Bethlehem, the city of David!”
6. The Shepherds
The shepherds hurried to the village and found Mary and Joseph.
And there was the baby, lying in the manger.
It was just as the angel had told them.
7. The Wise Men
The star they had seen in the east guided them to Bethlehem.
They entered the house and saw the child with his mother,
Mary, and they bowed down and worshipped him.
8. The Promise
For God loved the world so much that
he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him
will not perish but have eternal life.
